Tonights sermon at church was really good, it was Bob doing it rather than Tim and Bob surpassed by expectations (not that I had low ones, Bob is a great guy and really supportive), but what he said was so spot on and went inside with so much of what I believe, an example of this is he was talking about Christmas and how in our society we’re trying to take the Christ out of it. He also talked about how Jesus is ‘the way the truth and the life’ which was great. Since being back in Peterborough I feel quite fired up for God to the point where I’m almost saying loud ‘Amen’s’ in sermons, atm I’m settling for a quiet whisper of it (God still hears)
However all this is making me realise what a strange mix of Christianity I am, many of my beliefs are quite conservative in that I think Jesus is the only way to heaven, no if’s or but’s! (of course not to say everyone who says they know him will get there) but at the same time I’m quite open to things like Halloween, not to say I think dressing up as the devil is ok, and things like horrorscopes make me so uneasy but still I’m an odd one!
On another note I think this last month has helped me realise practically why God (in my opinion) prefers it if we only date Christians. The way I see it, and this is bizarre because I’ve always wanted to be with a Christian ever since I was well young (hehe hint of some kind of accent there), but in my opinion the bible makes it clear that we should only marry Christians (verses such as being evenly yoked, which I can’t be bothered to find cos I’m too tired to navigate more than one site, feel free to comment them though!), and the way I see dating is to search for a wife, If you couldn’t see yourself married to someone is there any point being with them? (It’s that conservitive side of me again!) and I think in this last month I’ve really realised first hand how great it is to be with a Christian. God made humans to worship Him and having someone who get’s that is great!
Anyway, there’s my thoughts for this evening for what they’re worth! At some point in the future I shall be showing my cross-between-liberal-and-conservative side with a post on homosexuality, my thoughts about it, what I believe the bible says and why some churches have it wrong (and not just the gay churches!)
