Unplugged – Session 3 – Tuning In
You will need: The book ‘God 360’ by Andy Flannigan (Link), a version of the song Strength Will Rise (YouTube link)
Session Aims To think about how tuned into God we are
To ask the Holy Spirit to help us
To spend some time tuning into God
Introduction Re-cap on the sessions so far
Explain I hope that so far this weekend you’ve been reminded of your purpose, that you’ve been reminded that God passionately loves you and wants to have a relationship with you.
I hope this morning gave you a chance to think about the things that create a barrier between you and God…whether it’s sin in our lives or just having way to much on.
This evening we’re going to think about how God helps us with all of that stuff and how we can tune into God.
Worship Strength Will Rise
Ask How tuned in to God do you feel?
Think of it in terms of a radio….
We can be tuned right into God’s station with a crystal clear sound
We can be nudging towards that station…we can hear some of it but it’s got noise behind it
We could be tuned into a completely different channel completely!
Ask What can we do to feel more tuned into God?
How does God help us?
Explain God’s main way of helping us is the Holy Spirit
Bible Acts 2: 16-21
Galations 5: 16-26
Explain The Holy Spirit is the part of God promised to us by Jesus who calls the holy Spirit the helper. The holy spirit is the part of God that lives in us…the part of God that can speak to our hearts, help us when we don’t know what to pray, comfort us when we need comfort and challenge us when we need to be challenged
Testimony Anyone have a story of when the Holy Spirit has spoke to them?
Explain We’re going to spend the last half hour of this session tuning into God…so take a bible, pen and notepad and find a quiet space on your own and ask God to speak to you…expect God to speak to you.
Psalm 37.7 says ‘Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him, do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes’
